Gary celebrated his 40th birthday at Plas Caerdeon cottages near Barmouth in Wales. The event was organized and funded by the Institute. All celebrants were asked to prepare a short piece about ageing. We’ve had all kinds of performances, from balalaika songs to visceral live art pieces involving pickles and cheese. A couple of performers devised a narrative of Gary’s life, having done their research into Gary’s important moments , and juxtaposed it with worldly political events. We were entertained, puzzled, grossed out and elevated. Other activities included eating fish and chips at the Barmouth beach, walking in Plas Caerdeon, barbecue and fireworks display.
