A monthly space that supports group readings of philosophical/political theory outside academic environments. The group is for people interested in exploring the complex relationship between art/aesthetics and politics both in ‘theory’ and ‘practice’.
The Politics and Aesthetics RG initially ran from 2010 to 2012. Check out The Politics and Aesthetics RG Archive.
A regrouping took place in late 2016, with Rosi Braidotti’s ‘The Contested Posthumanities’ chapter from her and Paul Gilroy’s Conflicting Humanities book, followed by extracts from Georges Bataille’s The Culprit and Bob Flanagan’s January from Hatred of Capitalism book, The Selfishness of Others: An Essay on the Fear of Narcissism by Kristen Dombek, video watching of ‘F’ comme “fidélité“ from Gilles Deleuze’s L’Abécédaire including ‘Introduction: Gilles Deleuze, a life in friendship’ from Charles J. Stivale’s book Key Concepts and finally ‘The Freudian Thing’ from Ecrits by Jacques Lacan.
The Politics and Aesthetics RG has been taken up by Artists4Corbyn campaign since May 2017.
