The Institute for the Art and Practice of Dissent at Home founded in 2007 in Liverpool, UK was a critical intervention into family life and the normative upbringing of children and was funded by 10% of the family’s net income. The Institute were Gary Anderson, Lena Simic and their children: Neal, Gabriel, Sid, James (and Tesla  Spinoza, the dog). Their publications included books 10 (2019), 4 Boys [for Beuys] (2016) and Five (2014), individual publications for journals such as Contemporary Theatre Review, Performance Research, RiDE, Feminist Review, Meta Mute, The Concept Store Journal, Liverpool Art Journal and numerous national and international conferences. The Institute also co-edited ‘On Children’ edition of the Performance Research journal. They presented work at Tate Modern, Arnolfini, Artsadmin, the Live Art Development Agency, the Bluecoat, FACT, Tobacco Factory, New Art Gallery Walsall, Chelsea Theatre, Stanley Picker Gallery, East Street Arts, Wysing Arts Centre, 25 SG. They collaborated with the Live Art Development Agency on the Study Room in Exile and the Library for Performing Rights, helped coordinate The Free University of Liverpool and Artists4Corbyn as well as The Liverpool Anarchist Communist Sunday School and The Politics and Aesthetics Reading Group.
